Pag-IBIG MP2 savings: how it works and what it can grow to

How Pag-IBIG MP2 voluntary savings work, why dividends change each year, and a worked example of ₱2,000 a month over five years.

What MP2 is

MP2 is a voluntary savings program from Pag-IBIG. You save from ₱500 a month, and dividends are credited each year. It is meant to be left alone for five years.

A worked example

₱2,000 a month for 5 years is ₱120,000 saved. At a 6% yearly dividend with dividends added back, the balance is about ₱143,408, a gain of ₱23,408.

What can change

The dividend rate is not fixed. It has moved year to year, so plan with a cautious number. Check the withdrawal rules on the Pag-IBIG site before you commit.

How it compares

Compare MP2 with a digital bank savings account for your emergency fund, and with Retail Treasury Bonds and index funds for longer money. Keep three to six months of costs in cash first.

Common questions

What is the minimum MP2 saving?

₱500 a month, or a one-time amount.

Are MP2 dividends guaranteed?

No. Pag-IBIG announces them each year.

Should MP2 be my emergency fund?

Keep an emergency fund in cash first. MP2 is for money you will not need for five years.
